Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) is an international inter-governmental organization with its Headquarters located at Islamabad, Pakistan. It was established in 1994, as the highest level forum in the developing world, representing joint political commitment of the heads of state or governments in the South. The main objective was to use science and technology applications for the socio-economic uplift of the developing countries. COMSATS resolved to achieve its mission through strengthening collaboration and exchange of resources among the countries in the South as well as in the North.

COMSATS Internet Service (CIS) is a strategic business unit of COMSATS Pakistan. CIS stated its operation in 1996 and is pioneer in launching Internet Backbone on multi-city basis in the country and is now successfully operating in 10 major cities of Pakistan and providing Internet products and services to the people of Pakistan.
